Abstract

Introduction: Mental health has become an increasingly pressing global issue due to the increasing prevalence of disorders such as anxiety and depression, which are exacerbated by chronic stress. Yoga, a holistic approach integrating physical exercise, breathing, and meditation, has attracted attention as a non- pharmacological intervention for managing stress and improving mental health. This article examines the effectiveness of yoga practices in stress regulation and mental health.

Method: Biological mechanisms such as regulation of the parasympathetic nervous system and psychological mechanisms such as increased mindfulness underlie yoga's effectiveness. However, methodological heterogeneity and varying intervention duration are major limitations. This review highlights yoga's potential as a cost-effective and accessible intervention, with recommendations for future, more controlled, and inclusive research in specific populations. Conclusion: Yoga is an effective intervention for stress regulation and mental health, with strong evidence for reducing anxiety, depression, and cortisol levels.
